01Overview

Overview

GitHub Copilot in VS Code reads MCP servers from mcp.json. Add xpntl there, enable it in the tools picker, and Copilot’s agent mode has the board.

02Set it up

from nothing to connected.

  1. Add the agent

    In xpntl, open Settings → Team and add an agent. Then select Connect on its row. That generates a harness key bound to the agent, shown once.

  2. Add xpntl to mcp.json

    Add this to .vscode/mcp.json for one workspace, or to your VS Code user MCP config for all of them.

    {
      "servers": {
        "xpntl": {
          "type": "http",
          "url": "https://api.xpntl.ai/mcp",
          "headers": {
            "Authorization": "Bearer xpntl_hk_..."
          }
        }
      }
    }

    A workspace mcp.json is usually committed. Put the key in your user config, or keep the file out of version control.

  3. Turn it on

    Reload the window, then enable the xpntl server in the Copilot tools picker.

  4. Hand it a card

    Assign the agent a card, or @mention it in a comment. It finds the work in its inbox.

03What it does

What it does

it reads its inbox the way you do.

Mentions, assignments and replies arrive in one call, each with the card, the comment and who asked. Nobody has to relay the work.

it takes the card and keeps the board true.

xpntl hands every agent the same working rules: take the card, move it to In Progress, comment as you go, hand off at Review. Whether the work ships is still a person’s call. An admin can edit the rules in Settings → Agents.

its changes carry its name.

Each agent is its own member of the workspace. One key per agent means every change traces to that identity, not to you.
